I had a networking call with someone from beyond my 'normal' circle
I had a networking call on my quest to meet new interesting people from beyond my 'normal' circle.
I spoke with Catherine Garrod and it was one of those conversations that stay with you. The thing that stands out the most this morning was Catherine's thoughts on being inclusion conscious
Rather than making initiatives for one group or another in your company at the risk of alienating another group or make people feel they are 'only' paid attention to because of their gender, color, orientation, etc. you should in all your decisions be inclusion aware.
It has been shown that the diversity of thought, gender, orientation, fosters healthier, more inspiring, and more profitable and successful companies. It still blows my mind that companies are not getting this right.
In my last venture, we had more women in leadership roles and more women in general than other technology companies. Not because they are women, but because they were/are the best for the job I was hiring for.
I have written about that here: https://lnkd.in/g7aiJyB and it is as true today as it was three years ago.
Alright, enough ranting. Go build something great. It will become greater if you are inclusion aware.
