Unlocking the Power of Accountability: Your Key to Lasting Habits

We all know the transformative power of habit-building.

To become the person we’ve always wanted to be, we have to build our identity from the ground up with a little daily practice.

And today I want to walk you through the best strategy to build habits that actually stick – because we all know how hard it can be to stay consistent (yes, even for me.)

Without further ado…

The only habit-building secret you'll ever need to create a life of health, wealth, and happiness is:

Accountability.

Accountability to yourself.

Accountability to friends/family.

Accountability to a trusted mentor.

This process is extremely valuable for cultivating new habits (especially hard ones) because of one simple, unfortunate human truth:

You're not perfect:

  • You know you should work out.
  • You know you should eat healthy.
  • You know you should meditate.
  • You know you should get 8 hours of sleep.
  • You know you should read.

But continuing these "life-changing" habits beyond 1 week always feels impossible.

It doesn't have to be that way.

You shouldn't feel bad for wanting to quit. Everyone struggles with willpower and consistency when building difficult habits.

Enter: accountability.

Accountability is the best mechanism to keep you locked into your vision and executing on your habits according to plan.

Let's start with accountability to yourself.

Set small, achievable goals for each day.

  • 5 minute run.
  • 5 pages of reading.
  • 1 hour earlier bedtime.

The only way you'll be accountable to yourself is if you can realistically accomplish your goals every day (even when it's hard.)

Next comes accountability to friends and family.

I'm not talking about asking your loved ones to police your daily habits.

Instead, think about sharing the positivity of your habits with them and include them on the journey with you.

Becoming a leader keeps you consistent.

Finally:

Accountability to a trusted mentor.

If you're truly committed to building a difficult habit, you'll want to find a coach or mentor who can support you along the way.

Someone who can lift you up when you're low -- but push you past your own excuses.

CEOs and Founders are highly capable individuals, and even they still struggle to program new habits into their lives.

Their secret is to work with a specialized coach to not only give them guidance -- but the sense of accountability that keeps them consistent every day.

Don't blame yourself for struggling to stick to a plan.

Building new habits is inherently challenging -- but when you build out 3 tiers of accountability to

  • Yourself
  • Friends/Family
  • A Trusted Mentor

You'll push through your discomfort and cement your habits in for life.

And that’s it…..

I hope you have a regenerative rest of the week and get the absolute most out of your days.
