Doing everything
A board chairman and I were talking about how new CEOs get bogged down in operational details all too frequently.
He said, "It is like there is no filter on what goes on the to-do list. He thinks he needs to be doing everything still."
This is a very common theme when you rise to the higher levels of an organization: not knowing what not to do.
It reminded me of the Alan Watts quote: "The menu is not the meal."
(my interpretation): Just like you would not eat the entire menu, you should not be doing everything. Let someone else have a taste of the to-dos too.
