I didn’t have someone like me.
This is the answer I give when I get the question: “Why did you get into coaching?”
Having been the CEO of several companies and the founder of others, I know first-hand how the experience is both exhilarating and tumultuous.
My tenures as chief executive were probably the most stressful times in my life - and the pressure affected my personal and professional relationships.
And it’s lonely. When you reach the top, it’s easy to feel like the ground beneath your feet is tenuous - and always moving.
As a leader, I wanted to have my “person” - someone who could guide me through knotty situations… someone without any agenda other than helping me… someone I could completely trust.
The empathy I bring to the world of a chief executive allows me to fill the gap I wished I had when I was in that seat.
If I ever become a CEO again, there’s no doubt in my mind that I would want a “me” to have by my side on the journey.
