Your success as a founder depends on this 1 core skill
Your success as a founder depends on this 1 core skill:
👉 The number of difficult conversations you are willing to have.
But how do you keep it real with your team + investors without them suffering a blow to their egos?
Here's a 5 step framework I teach high-performing founders:
- Dig up the why:
↳ Ask yourself why this conversation feels difficult. Do you have to break a bitter pill, or are you afraid they're going to see you in a different light?
- Write it out:
↳ Put pen to paper and clarify your thoughts. This will help you step into their shoes, empathize, and build a dialogue.
- Review:
↳ Run your points past someone you trust and who's out of the sphere.
- Brace them:
↳ You don't want to casually discuss the weather and then suddenly break the news. So draft an email outlining the topic to eliminate the surprise and give them some time to reflect.
- Talk it out:
↳ Now that they've had time to internalize everything, they'll be more open to your thoughts. So, get right into it.
And that's it.
No matter how much it stings, remember:
Short-term discomfort is always better than long-term dysfunction
