When Founders Clash.
Let me share a story.
Two founders, Alex and Jordan, had a beautiful vision.
But as their startup grew, so did their disagreements.
One saw the future in diversification; the other, in specialization. The conflict reached a boiling point, threatening to break up their partnership and their company.
Here’s how we navigated through:
- The Sit-Down: They set aside egos and met, not as co-founders, but as the original dreamers they were, reminiscing about their initial goals and shared vision. “Why did we start this thing?”
- The Pivot: Realizing their common ground was larger than their dispute, they agreed to test both strategies (diversification/specialization) in small scales, letting results guide their decisions. “Let’s make more calculated bets, and measure….”
- The Bond: We introduced a monthly 'Founders Retreat' to reconnect, discuss openly, and prevent buildup of unspoken tensions. “Peter can be Switzerland”
The guys just had to be reminded (and shown) that at the heart of every conflict lies the seed of potential growth. They cared deeply about the business AND each other, and are now building a happier and healthier business together, again.
No one loves conflict - but it can be a source of something better - let me know if you need what Alex and Jordan managed to get. Happy to help.
