Sixty minutes
If your charge indicator said 5km left - would you keep driving your car?
Of course not. You'd find a charger. Yet we do this to our bodies… all the time.
I was reminded of this analogy recently and reflected on how the key to increased productivity is being selectively unproductive.
Let’s be clear, I’m not suggesting sitting around all day watching “Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle.” (though it is a fine movie!)
Rather it’s making deliberate choices to shut your mind off for one hour per day. Recovery from a burnout is a bumpy ride. Wouldn’t it be better to just avoid it altogether?
Test out different times of day and activities to see which work for you. For some, it might be taking a long midday walk. For others it might be an end-of-day break to do some drawing or video games.
But the key is to not feel guilty about this time. It’s as important to your success as developing a strategic plan for your company or a client.
For those who have had success with doing this, what is your 60-minute recharge?
